Well the question really should be is my company or website going to contain a lot of content or be updated frequently ? With that being said lets talk a little about what a CMS is and how you use a CMS.

What is a CMS?

CMS stands for “Content Management System” what we are referring to is the program that are used to run a website, manage multiple documents on a site and multiple users.

What does a CMS do?

* Allowing allot of different users to contribute to and share stored files.
* Controlling access to data and files that will be based on user roles.
* Making it easier to store and retrieve data
* Makes it easier to add multiple documents.
* Making it easy to add and do report writing
* Improves communication between multiple users

Now to answer the question. When we take a look at our business or website we have to ask our self what are we trying to do or what is this sites purpose. How many people come to our site? What is the cost or time budgeted to this site? How many user need to add content to the site? Last but not least what will the ease of use be or how easy do I need it to be able to add content to the site.

The initial cost and CMS setup can be quite steep in comparison to a regular site. But the overall product you receive is way more valuable. You really can’t compare the two when it comes to overall performance. The cost for an average static site can range from $300- $1500. CMS’s usually starts around $1000 and can be as much as $12000. Now don’t let these numbers scare you because some of the biggest companies will not need to invest half that much on there website.

If you want a website that needs to updated frequently, has many articles or pages, has use for many benefits to running your business and want to use your site as an extension to your marketing plan then “yes” you need to get a CMS. If you have a low budget, no use for many articles or pages or just need something to look at then you don’t need a CMS. Not every situation requires one but, when you think of great websites and sites that are ranked high with Google search or yahoo. Then you see one running and is usually updated daily.
